Sen Haerens Progress

Sen Haerens personal blog including current project research, link roll and upcoming project teasers. Also available as an Atom feed.

Big Electronic Dog #

Nice dynamics when they kick it. Dog-like creepy though.

Buzz Image #

Funky making of some Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind special effects.

Develop your black-and-white film with coffee or vitamin C tablets #

and it actually works… ;-)

Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics #

Some insultingly stupid movie physics are so commonplace as to make it inefficient for us to rail about individual instances. They have become visual clichés and do for movies what verbal clichés do for literature.

Chernobyl Legacy #

I didn’t need the audio commentary, a very impressive essay by Magnum in Motion.

How to become an expert lip reader? #

Some videoclips that I keep coming back to although there’s something very sleazy about them. Second place: The Presets – Are you the one?. Third place: Vitalic – Birds.

Rabbit in your headlights #

This U.N.K.L.E music video is rather old (1998) but still very strong imagery. The clip was directed by Jonathan Glazer and banned from MTV because of extreme violence. Glazer’s highly visual and narrative music videos are compiled on a Directors Label DVD.

King Kong Production Diary #

In-depth movies behind the production of the new Peter Jackson flick. Especially color grading is nice.

Aphex Hidden Face #

Old Wired article found when searching about Aphex Twins latest Analord releases.

Saul Bass #

An overview of his title design work for Hitchcock, Kubrick and Scorsese amongst others.

The Naked Truth #

Naked people at an art exhibition always work…

Banksy #

Wicked grafitti and stencil work. New pieces on the West Bank barrier in Palestina. “Laugh now, one day we’ll be in charge.”

Dirkon #

A cut-out paper pinhole camera from the ex–communist Czechoslovakia. You’ve got to have some folding skills though. ;-)

The Common Desk #

Extremely amusing 40 minutes Quicktime masterpiece about finding the right kind of inspiration. This is part two in the Pollinate sessions sprung to life by broadcast design studio Belief.

Discotannsin #

Funky arse instructional video, strictly Finnish. “Disco dancing is not dead!”

Manufactured Landscapes #

Edward Burtynsky depicts the industrial world. The Zoomify technology is really put to use with this fine detail photography.

Redo from Start #

Good ol’ chipsound from Brussels based Trez & Brioche.

Human Traffic #

Excellent street photography by John Brownlow.

“Lost” Kubrick #

Previously unpublished photos of Chicago by Stanley Kubrick, in the Chicago Tribune.

Fast Film #

A new short by Virgil Widrich, the maker of the Oscar nominated Copy Shop. Quite fresh!

Peter Jackson’s $100,000 robot band #

A nice present for his wifeys birthday. This sounds worse than a MIDI file. He should visit Decap sometime.

Lensco’s Widgets #

A nice collection of widgets for Tiger’s dashboard. Gouden Gids is especially handy for Belgian users.

Veejay Peter Greenaway #

Finally we’re not the film–maker’s retarded cousin, they want to be like us! (via VJCentral)

Image America #

It stinks like a commercial for Sony Ericsson camera phones but the photos are pretty good. “It doesn't matter what box you use” The photographers cliché still holds true.

Figlet #

10 years ago I was doing this by hand in Word Perfect… There’s also an online generator available.

Star Wars Typography #

Analyzing the super–famous text crawl at the beginning of each episode.

Architecture of Density #

I just love Michael Wolfs straight line — technical camera like — architecture photography.
